Brandon and Rachel were married on July 10th, 2010 at the Carlson Conservatory. This was one of those weddings I felt very close to. In the few times we had been together, I felt a real bond with Brandon and Rachel. I felt so much joy for Rachel, especially. She is a beautiful, kind person. I am sad that they moved to Texas right after the wedding. I would love to have gotten to know her better. When the above moment was happening right after the ceremony ended, I was shooting through tears. I could feel their joy. I love my job.

Photographer’s Notes: I’ve photographing weddings for 6 years now, and what I’m finding is that there’s no one right way to photograph a wedding. My personal approach is to focus on moments (emotions especially), beautiful portraits that are natural and relaxed, and yummy details.

I know how they feel! I’m so excited to launch my new blog design – with bigger photos and a new look! I’m still tweaking some stuff, but it’s ready to prime time!

Okay, enough about my blog, I’ve been SO excited to share this wedding with you all! Ben and Jacqui are not only clients, but friends of ours. I felt just so honored to be a part of their wedding day. I know I say that a lot, but I truly feel that way about my role as a wedding photographer. And to be able to use my gift to bless friends, well, the privilege doubles!

Ben and Jacqui are unconventional, creative, expressive, and kindhearted all the way. Jacqui got her dress at TJ Maxx and embellished it herself! The bridesmaid all bought cotton dresses and Jacqui and her sister dyed them to pretty much the beautiful shade of her blue eyes. Ben is a music teaching and a recording artist. His first CD “The Brighton” was released last year and it’s one of my favorites! Ben arranged to have a small orchestra play at the wedding. What a treat for this photographer with a music degree! :)

The ceremony took place at a new venue in the Twin Cities – Silverwood Park in St. Anthony, MN. The ceremony was outside in the outdoor amphitheater, and the reception was in the Great Hall.

Everyone played Kazoos during the recessional. Here’s Ben, doing a demo of the two-kazoo technique!

One of the challenges of getting married outside – bugs in your veil! But never fear, you’re awesome sister will get them out!

A news helicopter obnoxiously circled around the ceremony for a bit. It was loud. ;)

Joanna and Jason May (JMay) were married at Benjamin Ranch in Kansas City, Missouri on May 1st. May Day. :)

I loved this wedding for so many reasons. Joanna is like a sister to me and I love her so much. To see her so happy, marrying a great man who loves her so much he was in tears before the wedding even started, was a great joy for my heart. Joanna was a STUNNING bride…positively radiant! I also loved the setting – a ranch. We’re both country girls which made it just perfect.

Photographer’s Notes: The biggest challenge for this wedding was that there was very little available light for the ceremony. We knew that ahead of time, so my wonderful husband Tracy, who owns and runs an audio-visual rental company called Fourth Man Productions, rigged up stage lights on clamps, which I attached to wooden posts on either side of the stage at the rehearsal. I often attend wedding rehearsals so I can try to be prepared for tricky lighting situations like this one.
