When someone books a session, I usually don’t scope the location in advance. Most of my clients are a considerable distance away and I’ve gotten pretty good at working with just about any type of location. So when my GPS “Jean” led me to the Rold property, I got a little giddy because it was SO beautiful! Large trees, wood fencing, perfect weather, horses that are loved, and a photogenic family…it was the recipe for a great session.

The tractor was this boy’s “horse,” so he wanted his picture taken on it!

I didn’t have to work very hard to get them to smile here – their son was sitting behind me making faces at them!

This photo just makes me laugh!

Even when I do a portrait-focused session with horses, I always like to try and get some good photos of my clients’ horses at liberty.

What a beautiful family! I love the one of the little boy on the stump. What a cute face! I also love the way you capture the unique relationship between horses and their humans. Just gorgeous!

I was wondering, although it doesn’t really relate to this post, what kind of lighting equipment you use at weddings. Do you use off-camera lighting and on-camera flash? Softboxes? Strobe lights? How do you shoot in low-light weddings and still make them look romantic (not blow everyone away with the flash)?
