Spring has finally sprung in Minnesota! I’m not counting out the possibility of snow, but for this week, it’s in the upper 60s with lots of bright sunshine, and that makes me happy. :)
Spring means fresh foals start to appear on the landscape! Last fall, I made friends with LeAnne, the owner of WInd N Wood Farm. It is a unique facility dedicate to foaling, which means that they take in other people’s pregnant mares during late pregnancy and they assist in the foaling process. The best part? The farm is about 8 minutes from me and there will be a steady stream of foals appearing between now and June!
Yesterday, the weather was too nice to spend the whole day at my computer, so I dropped in at the farm to see what foals they might have for me to photograph. There was one who was born the night before. The filly was surprisingly muscular and strong on her feet. She hadn’t even been out of the stall yet, so they thought that letting them out might give me a better opportunity for photographs and boy, were they right!
There was sunlight coming in through windows at the top of the arena, and the arena hasn’t been watered in a few day. The combination made for some amazing light for these photographs.

Mom was tired, you know, after giving birth and all.
